Dream Girl...

This is actually an oldie but goody that I slapped some color on for practice. I call the this Dream Girl because when a girl at my job saw the line art/blknwht version of she asked me if the girl in the image is my girlfriend. Sadly of course I just made her up from a model at school. *Sigh*
I would hope that my future girlfriend/wife will look something like this, but of course I have to be a good man for that special person in which I'm not mature enough or ready for at this present time. So I guess I gotta keep dreamin'.................................. :(

Badnews zombie.......

Well this is soo gonna be the most in appropriate posting in all the history of blogalation but, I did this sketch of a zombie for an actress at the park who plays a zomboid, but the bad news is at 4am this morning my Uncle Kenneth Dean passed away of Pancriatic Cancer this morning. I got to see him before Jesus took him home but, I can't help but feel that I've been so selfish in my life when someone dies. Conviction mixes itself with guilt and sadness into a deeply thick cocktail of pain. Please keep my familia in you prayers.

Samurai Concepts for the portfolio..

Back from the underground with a nu blogalation! As you know from my last post I have to rework the portfolio. So here are some skizznetches from part of visdev portfolio. It's a Samurai themed story. I feel so wonderful since church last night! The Spirit moved greatly and the lord touched my heart again. He reminded me that "i can do all things through christ who strengthens me" and " With men it is impossible but, not with God for all things are possible!"" Nothing is impossible for those that believe!" I haven't felt this alive in a long time yallz! I got my creativity sparked again thanx to the Lord of lords and King of Kings!

The stuggles of faith

I don't believe that I've been as candid or as transparent on past posts , but truth be told it's been a real struggle for me not only with my art but with my Christian faith. With my many struggles that came during college and depression, I drifted further away from Christ. I've continued fighting with many issues I've had for a long time. Yesterday I finally fasted and went on a prayer walk in San Francisco after an apointment to see my director Sherrie Sinclair at the Academy. She looked at my portfolio and determined it was average and still needed much work before I could send it out to companies. I agreed with her and tried to keep my spirit up but, I could help but feel bad. Other students I knew had jobs and worked well in school. After seeing the shape of my work I felt convicted and shame of my past performance at the academy. I felt while I learned some great life changing points in college, my witness to my teachers and fellow students was shameful. I struggled as I drove to figure out how I could overcome my past mistakes, failures, and sins. So I headed to the park sat on a bench cliff side at the end of Anza street and prayed while over looking ocean beach. The horizon was bright with the rays of the sun and became a glimpse of the never failing love of Christ . I never felt so much better after that time but, as you know how it works the Devil (Accuser) attacks with doubts, fears, condemnation, and discouragement about my future. I'm reminded of scripture to " have faith in God, for it may seem impossible with men but all things are possible with God" ," His mercy is renewed everyday", " He casts our sins in the sea of forgetfulness". It reminded me of this screen shot from the Anime "Trigun", Wolfwood dies in a church leaning on his cross gun. The image of the strong willed but fragile man leaning on his stable cross that stood even to his dead weight inspired me. It reminds me again that no matter what feel or face my circumstances the Cross of Christ will always stand. Please don't be offended by my words but, my faith even though shaken , is what I go back to on good and bad days. This may seem a bit "EMO" but I felt I had to be real. I hope this inspires someone to keep going when your at the end of you..

Mo Caricature fun!

Mo caricatures! This time Cosby, E-40, and Mr.LIF! Man doing these were hard today because I was feeling very discoraged because of some crits I got on drawingboard.org. Honestly I was debating on if I should reapply next year or just quit the caricature gig now. Man even though I've read the bible verses and created a sermon on crits they still are a challenge for me to get over.
well keep prayin' for a brotha net commune.

Fun with caricature!

Another post this time with some more caricatures! Bloc Party, MadVillain, and Nicole and Paris.
I redrew these from my previous samples from work. Enjoy!

Cg practice, Ed Benes

Continued practice in photo shop painting. These are penciled by Ed Benes of Gen 13 and other comics. I'm a big fan of his work. On these I was practicing a technique used by Capcom artist
Kinu Nishamura (on top)who I'm also a big fan of. She implies a watercolor technique in photo shop by painting a grey scale of her character and color adjusts the different areas to finish it. She achieves a beautiful texture and depth with her style. I hope to achieve the same with my work.

Ibuki cg practice by SRS, art by Omar Dogan

Hey all! Sorry for the long pause with posting. I just got done with some photo shop painting practice. This is Capcom's Ibuki from SF3 done by UDON COMICS artist Omar Dogan. I love his work and he posted the pencils to his DA page. This image is one of my faves so far. I painted a loose background for the first time. I wanted to convey a Japanese wooded temple walk way with light bits of sun light breaking through. I'm going to keep working on this. My painting of the character was great, and I was proud of it. I'm making head way in the CG realm. thanks to all who are looking! I'll post up my other cg pieces.

All the style they put into the character designs, it's like Jim Lee's artwork has truly come alive! This was really exiciting to see on youtube. I saw this in 97-98 when it was syndicated. SDCC: Where I met Rosario Dawson!!!

I'll be posting more about comic con but I'can't help but talk about this one!!
Yup the photo is proof that I met Rosario Dawson. Ha Ha Ha!!! She was soooo awsome in person! Man I never knew how down to earth she is! She was so kind to me and others. I've gained a great deal of respect for her. From an article from Bust magazine I read about her views on certain issues. She also has a heart to serve people which I'm a firm believer as a follower of Christ. After meeting twice , getting a few pics, and signatures, I decided to give her a gift art. I drew a toon version of her with a street art style backdrop of ZOO YORK (new york if you don't know the skate refrence). I drew and painted it Sunday morning. As worked on it , I felt a bit convicted about why I was doing it. I repented asked Christ to help me have pure motives and that his spirit would shine through my work. I didn't want to baptize what I was doing, I wanted to do it with sincerity and as a gift for her kindness. I included my card and a leave behind sketch book. I don't know why I added those things, I hope that she didn't think that I was just trying to get something from her. I gave it to her that morning and I wasn't sure of her reaction. I hope she liked it. I felt kinda stupid after I gave it to her. I really did respect her and really was thankful to learn how nice she really was. I learned alot during that convention about myself. I must admit I do think she's beautiful but, after I met her in person I saw a glimmer of who she really was and that out shined her beauty. She's a really wonderful person. I'll never know if she liked my work or not as well as I have to pray that God will show me the way to treat others more the way that they want to be treated no matter who they are. Maybe I'm over thinking all of this but, like my friend Marcus said tonight " At least you got the picture and proof that you met Rosario Dawson!" Straight up!!

new sketches inspired by hiphop

Whats up net nation! Sorry for the late update. Been busy at work. I recently saw my friends at a
HipHop show in SF at The Element Lounge. My boys Afterflow and The Earthtones were playing during this underground HipHop fest. It was great and a few of my friends were doing live art at the show. Thus inspiring the images above. Also lately I've had an infatuation with the bay area Hyphy Movement. Maybe because I'm a Bay Area boy but, it's exciting to see people being heard and getting excited about something in your area. Even though I don't Ghost Ride .I've always had a thing for street art ever since I was a kid. I never tagged on walls but , many street artist turned fine artists have amazing pen and ink drawings. When I look at these sketches, it makes me think of San Francisco an all the sick graffiti and street art I've seen. So inspiring.

AFI Caricature

AFI is a bay area punk rock band that has been making waves in the underground for years. Since 2003, AFI have become a hit in the mainstream Alternative Rock scene. I was inspired by their look to make a caricature. Davey Havok has an interesting face and he his hair look so much fun to draw. Punks, Goths, Hip Hop Heads, and other subculture followers to me are very fun to draw. They add excitement to the mixture of people. Did this for my re-ap for Discovery Kingdom. -SRS

Sketch from the palace of fine arts in SFO,CA

Hi again this is another painting from my sketchbook. I went to the palace of fine arts and sketched with kanishka my bud from AAU. It was a beautiful day on Wednesday and I decided to sketch this corner of the POF. The wall is actually really big in proportion to people walking by. I was amazed when I realized it. it's really fun to sketch from life! The I loved the local colors of the area a mixure of Blue/Orange and Red/Green just in that area. If your ever in the City check out the Palace of fine arts you'll enjoy it.

A girl from my church...

Well this is my very first Blog post! Ha I'm finally Internet hip!!! Well I'm working on some illustrations with a friend from my church. I painted this with water color in my sketch book. I love watercolor.
It's become my fave medium of choice. I'm actually proud of this sketch because i haven't really drawn much portraiture in a long time aside from my caricaturist job at Discover Kingdom in Vallejo,Ca. It turned out pretty close, I'm thankful to my teacher Marv Werland who taught me a simple way of drawing the face, starting with a oval for the head and focusing on the eyes and nose first. Then working towards the lips and other features after. Well I hope you enjoy this and thank you much for coming to view my first post. I'm very thankfull to God for every person who views my work. Have a wonderful day.
